[...] But lest you think only conservatives are outraged by the Obama administrations flip flopping stance on a very successful program in the DC schools … no less than liberal pundit Juan Williams has urged the reinstatement of the voucher money. Even better … Juan knows the only thing blocking these kids from a good education and it’s definitely not money as Steve points out here. [...]

Fewer and fewer people are taking him at his word, which is proving to be even more unreliable that the typical politician's word. Must be a part of the "change" we were told we were getting.

As for "articulate lawyer," articulate requires that one be able to express one's self without reading canned responses. Anyone can be a good reader, but being able to think on your feet and knowing your topic is a much more difficult task, one he has not mastered.

Lawyer? Well, he has a degree, but can anyone cite, or even find, a notable court case that he has defended? Heck, he won't even let us see his Columbia grades!

The real test: if these schools are good enough for my kids, it should be good enough for his, and all the public school teachers that choose to send their kids to private schools.

A major difference between a charter school and a public school is the fact parents elect to send their children there. Parent power is - I believe - one of the strongest indications of student success since it shows that the parents value education. In addition, students whose effort and behavior issues are negative, can be asked to leave. Also, many charter schools have not been required to administer the State of CT tests (CMT, CAPT). These tests reveal a student's strength in mastering the basic skills on the test - basic skills that every student in CT should be expected to show mastery. As a public school teacher, I often wished that we had the same rights and parental support found in charter schools. The testing system in CT was first developed to evaluate the master of basic skills of each student and to provide remediation so that those skills could be learned. You can find the standards on line at the SDE. It has become a political football to be kicked back and forth and the focus on providing remediation ignored.

I also find it amazing that anyone could take Mr. Obama at his word. He is an articulate lawyer - if only while the teleprompter is on - who answers each question with both a yes and no. He can never be wrong. He reminds me of a story about at Dr. who would tell his patients he was 100% accurate in predicting the sex of their baby. He was always right. How? If he told the mother-to-be that she was going to have a boy, he wrote "girl" in his notes. If he was wrong and the mom called him on it, he was able to open to her records and clearly show her the word "girl." If he was right, mom didn't complain and he never had to open his book. Obama does the same thing. However, thank goodness for YouTube - we can keep the lies straight.
