No tax reform … no VAT tax
There’s a lot about Alan Simpson that just strike me as cranky. But he does force me to think critically. As one of the co-chairs of the Deficit Reduction Commission, I have no doubt that he is sincere in his pledge to cut the deficit down to size, although I hope that includes cutting the government down to size.
In light of this, Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles both were asked yesterday on Fox News Sunday, and again on Cavuto today, about the idea of a VAT tax to help cut the deficit down to size, and Simpson made it clear … no VAT unless every other tax is on the table too.

It’s a good start for sure, and as I said, I do not doubt Simpson or Bowles sincerity. Two smart men. But while I am venting, I also have a hard time with the notion that, only now, after our introduction to trillion Obamadollar deficits, that something needs to be done to tackle the deficit. When Simpson says everything is on the table, I trust that he is sincere here as well. But don’t you wonder about an administration sounding the warning bell on deficits while spending a trillion dollars on a new entitlement?

a little like shutting the barn door after the horse is stolen, eh, Jim? I'm sure they are both sincere…but just a little late. VAT tax should not fund Obama's deficit spending.
