Linda McMahon and the WWE vs Democrats: living in a glass house

Every day Linda McMahon gets closer to the sitting in the Connecticut Senate driver’s seat and here’s thee perfect example. The Dumbocrats feel the heat and are running scared. They should be.

The Democrats have been hammering away on Mrs McMahon’s WWE empire for weeks, and the main stream media has dutifully followed suit never letting the chance to go by without mentioning “wraslin'”. Disgusting they called it. But that’s now … this was then. Hat tip to Hot Air.

Delicious irony. Despite this, the Daily Caller reports … this:

On Tuesday, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman Eric Schultz called WWE programming “violent, sexually explicit material that glorified the exploitation of women, and the mentally disabled.” Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan accused the GOP of nominating “a candidate who kicks men in the crotch, thinks of scenes of necrophilia as ‘entertainment,’ and runs an operation where women are forced to bark like dogs,” referring to sketches that appeared in WWE programming during McMahon’s tenure as CEO.

And don’t you buy for one second the Dumbocrats aren’t taking a whack at the whole wrestling crowd … which is what they claimed today in the Daily Caller:

When asked about whether it was appropriate for Democratic candidates to appear on WWE programs, a spokesman for the DNC said they were not attacking professional wrestling, but McMahon’s handling of her company.

Busted. They and the media never miss an opportunity to put down her supporters as gap toothed, bible thumping, shotgun toting, PBR swilling, sister kissing, cousin marrying Neanderthals. Remember you Waterbury folks?

Well be careful when you decide to “wrastle” in a glass house. Your arguments get shattered.

“It is hypocritical,” said Chris Healy, chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party. “They were more than eager to enlist WWE when it served their purposes and when it doesn’t, they trash them.”

“They are empty attacks,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Amber Marchand. “They are trying to draw attention away from the fact that [Democratic Senate candidate Richard] Blumenthal is a weak candidate.”

Here’s the deal. As I said weeks ago, at a time when unemployment is soaring, the economy sinking and our debt and our children’s indebtedness growing … if this is the best Blumy can do … smack down!

Editors note: If you don’t know what PBR is, my guess is Fineman and Todd were not talking about you.

Reflexive attacks without proper research always leaves you holding the bag.

Notice how both Hillary and McCain were animated and didn't even look like they were reading, while Øbama was clearly reading a script.  If you are going to make something humorous, at least put some effort into it.

Imagine if she had been a NASCAR executive!

Not a day goes by that Mcmahon does not mention her "empire" so the media brings up the fact that this is what her "empire" has produced.  I suppose if Jerry Springer or Hugh Hefner ran for office nobody would mention what they do.

They would if they were Republican candidates.  You certainly never hear how the Kennedy Crime family got all of their money and clout.

At least she doesn't run network shows like "Wife Swap" or "Big Brother" or any of the other multitude of "reality" shows.  Now that would be something to criticize!

I guess nobody saw the ad her republican opponent Peter Schiff ran which showed her kicking someone in the groin over and over.  Was he part of the main stream media?  Poor Linda.

    • Dimsdale on August 13, 2010 at 6:32 pm

All part of the show.  People don't really die on Miami CSI either.

    • scottm on August 15, 2010 at 5:06 am

You missed the point, her REPUBLICAN opponent the tea party candidate aired that ad not the devil mainstream media.  I think everyone has heard how the Kennedy family made their money it's been well documented.

    • Dimsdale on August 15, 2010 at 5:58 pm

The losing opponent, you mean.  I don't recall "poor Linda" responding in kind.

Re: the Kennedy Crime family: well documented perhaps, but quietly ignored.  I have asked med students, the cream of the crop", what Chappaquiddick was all about and drew blank stares.  Same with any real facts about the Kennedys.

Lets hope Linda can gain the support she needs to win in November. I have had my bumper sticker since May. I think she speaks from the heart not from the south end of a north facing career politician. (Or a teleprompter)

Let's all feel sorry for Linda, the victim.

    • Dimsdale on August 15, 2010 at 6:09 pm

Should I do it before or after I feel sorry for Rambo Blumenthal?  😉  I note that his team is pretty equivalently powered and experienced.

The left made controversy about schwarzenegger sticking a woman's head in a toilet back when he was running for Gov of CA.  Ironically, they never took issue with Ted Kennedy or CNN's Rick Sanchez having killed people with their cars.  An older Wiki story said that Sanchez's first comment when he found a man laying beside his car was- "My career is over!"  Now the story says that the pedestrian was drunk too- he must have had it coming like the college kids attacked by Congressman Etheridge!  I'd like to send a homeless person to Senate or Congress- and have the whole damned bunch of them catch scabies.  WWE is no less respectable than being a politician or a piano player in a whore house.

    • TomL on August 15, 2010 at 5:45 am

Nothing wrong with being a piano player in a whore house since it was an ACORN created or saved job.

Obama really phoned it in his wrestling ad. Too bad we can't go back to the days when wrestling was cool before the left decided to hate it because Linda is running for office.

  9. scottm on August 16, 2010 at 4:22 am

I think Hulk Hogan had more to do with the success of Mcmahon's "empire" than anything else, perhaps he can run for office in Ct.

I was always a fan of Prof. Toru Tanaka, from when wrestling was real!  😉
