If a “militia” adds the word “Christian” to their name…

… it does not mean they are Christians or represent other Christians. Can we get that straight? Some on the left are pointing at the arrest of nine members of a “Christian militia” in Michigan as some sort of “Christian” problem.

Maybe I could go out (as a white guy) and start a new group with the word “minority” in it. Do you think that would cause a fuss? It does not matter if it’s the truth or not, I’m just using the word minority in a name.

Hinderaker at Power Line blog agrees.

As a conservative, it is tempting to speculate that Leboon could be an excitable liberal who was roused to violence by Barack Obama’s exhortation that “if they bring a knife, we’ll bring a gun.” But that would be a cheap shot. Leboon, like the Michigan militia group, is bonkers.

Insanity is randomly distributed across the political spectrum. There is no cause so pure but what a crazy person (or several) can fasten onto it and purport to be acting in its name. It is wrong to try to make political hay out of such random nutcases, as the Democrats have been doing of late–without even waiting for the nutcase to appear!

This group was allegedly planning to directly attack law enforcement officers in efforts against tyranny.

Look, we have frequent elections and elections have consequences. Want to fight the soft tyranny represented by the incremental shift of power from the states to the federal government since the New Deal era? We’ll see you at the polls on election day.

If they put "Muslim" in front of terrorist or homicide bomber the way they plaster "Christian" in front of militia, they would be sued by the ACLU in a New York minute.

Naturally, the former is demonstrably more accurate than the latter.

They you again Steve Channeling your inner John McCain eager to SMACK DOWN anyone on the right who you fear makes us "look bad". I followed this story closley on http://militiaradio.com/96k.asx   There was a "sealed warrent" yet media was reporting  official rumors of "selling pipe bombs" . So much for a sealed warrent, and who sells pipe bombs? Sounds more like the weapon of choice for  Bill Ayers who has a lot of his weather undergrounders now working over at the FBI. Where are the specific threats to law enforcement officials? Have you heard a recording? I haven't. Take a look at the mug shot. The woman is the only one with a fat lip. Real nice of our fine men and women of the FBI to beat women in custody. The one person media  quotes to smear this group as "crazy" is the leader's ex wife, yet the husband has custody of their adopted child. Definining belief in the end times as CRAZY is something I find severly offensive.  The unsealed charges are so flimsy they look as cooked up  as the initial "pipe bomb" BS. This abusive overreach  by the Obama administration is a witch hunt cooked up by the Southern Poverty Law Center. I thought you were  better than a fair wheather friend Steve.

My point – that you missed – was that just because a group adds the word Christian to their name does not make them Christian or representation of Christians. Can we agree on that? And yes, some comments by the far-right, do make conservatives look bad, just like comments (and actions) by the far-left make "progressives" look bad.

Sometimes, some of your comments in the chatroom make people cringe. That's just the way it is.

"The woman is the only one with a fat lip. Real nice of our fine men and women of the FBI to beat women in custody."

Oh yeah, that's not jumping to a conclusion. That's where you loose your credibility.

Steve I do thank you for posting the story. The accusations are pipe bombs, sedition and threatening to kill police officer…who wrote these bogus charges Bill Ayers himself ? When people have to make up things, they usually pull from their own life experiances. Lets not forget this story from October where the same FBI commander shot and killed a Dearborn Imam. This raid does not pass the smell test . OK send Dennis Miller to interview Hutaree and we can do a remake of Joe Dirt…real funny ha ha but these people deserve the benefit of the doubt… .http://theblogprof.blogspot.com/2009/10/fbi-kills-leader-of-radical-muslim.html

Frankly, I am not SURPRISED that the MSM would add the word "Christian" in regards to this milita group, because this is Holy Week, the week just prior to Easter. It is their way of attacking the Christian faith community at this important time.

Important Info Obama does not want you to know. FBI director Andrew Arena was honorary chair of ALPACT dinner with Nabih Ayad….http://starr_12.tripod.com/nccjframe.htm…..Ayad is a powerful lawyer in the islamic community with appointments from the Governor. …….Detailed info on the Imam shot by Arena's agent. Abdullah belonged to Ummah, a sect that has roots in black panther wheather underground types. .. .http://sixties-l.blogspot.com/2009/12/unanswered-questions-in-fbi-killing-of.html……DIG DOWN DEEP into this important story and you will find the truth. This area of MI is becoming like Kashmir India with growing tensions between Muslims and christians. Local goverments are tight with money and were reaching out to local militias to help keep order with the Islamic problems the FEDS are not dealing with. The FEDS want to stop it,  protect the muslims, and make up for the botched operation of Octorber that killed an Imam.   PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING DOWN  AND DO YOUR RESEARCH.

Dude, you're referring to a story posted on a blogspot blog that links to stuff on the World Socialist Web Site and others? Come on now, nowhere in those stories can I even find the word "militia". If you've got a credible source indicating where … "Local goverments [sic] are tight with money and were reaching out to local militias to help keep order with the Islamic problems the FEDS are not dealing with" provide the link or these comments get deleted.

You do understand what you look like when you post this stuff right?

    • donh on March 31, 2010 at 7:40 am

It would be my pleasure Steve….the TRUTH on this story needs to be thoroughly researched…so many on our side have bought into the DEEMED news taken from MSM. … .http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/30/national/main6346357.shtml

    • Steve McGough on March 31, 2010 at 8:24 am

@donh: Your comment was totally misleading. The impression you left was that local governments were looking to the militia groups to "help keep order". This event was more akin to a police department reaching out to a specific community (school, neighborhood watch, gang members, experts in outdoor tracking, militia, ATV owners, horseback riders) to help find suspects. Be very mindful of your comments and how they are presented. Readers will also find your comments are disjointed, as you mix topics in together … confusing.

plenty of stories on  Muslim Christian strife in MI…. .http://www.faithfreedom.org/content/muslim-mob-surrounds-attack-christians-michigan

  9. donh on March 31, 2010 at 10:24 am

March 25 date of this article shows Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center  knew about these  "controversial" cooperations between local police and militia  before the raid went down. The  raid  also exposed Dan Reihl leader of the Michigan Militia as a muslim.   Do we know for sure  if those missing people hutaree was asked to help find were missing due to muslim violance? The system isn't working Steve…..Remeber this area of Michigan was the destination of the Christmas Bomber…. .http://www.annarbor.com/news/bridgewater-township-turns-to-militia-for-help/

It's all part of the slander and attack on Judean/Christian values and its followers. These people do not represent "Christianity"

That is all the Left has because they can not compete in the arena of reason and logic.

  11. Erik Blazynski on April 5, 2010 at 8:22 am

Steve, there are MANY headlines that appear on this website that are totally misleading.

The difference is the you are NOT a minority. These people are claiming to be Christian and may very well be christian.

  12. Steve McGough on April 5, 2010 at 8:38 am

Goodness… I guess nobody gets my point. They may well be Christian, I have no idea. Just because someone labels themselves something, does not make it so. Does my political leanings make me a minority? A "minority" certainly does not have to be exclusive to defining a race. My point is the media kept on keeping on with the Christian description, over, and over, and over again.

Can you provide me with details about specific headlines that are misleading? No need to post them here, just e-mail them to us and I'll try to do better, but keep in mind this is a conservative/libertarian opinion blog, not a we-aim-to-provide-balance news site.
