Arghhhhhhh! Lobbyists besiege Treasury for slice of the bailout pie

Feeling kinda changy? I know I am. From The International Herald Tribune.

The Treasury is under siege by an army of hired guns for banks, savings and loan associations and insurers – as well as for improbable candidates like a Hispanic business group representing plumbing and home-heating specialists. That last group wants the Treasury to hire its members as contractors to take care of houses that the government may end up owning after buying distressed mortgages.

Ah the law of unintended consequences. Seriously, you would have to be pretty stupid, or in Congress, not to see this coming.

Mr. Obama has a lot of promises, both said and insinuated, to live up to. What a shame we will be the ones paying for them, both literally and figuratively.

  2. How do we stop the madness? The people who were sent to congress in droves are the same people who will continue this kind of activity. There is no reason for them to listen to the hue and cries of the people- they were re-elected in even more numbers. How do we combat this now?

To Sue in response: perhaps our only defense is to remember our history. It always repeats itself. So we’ve seen already that we can survive a depression, even with govt gone awry and unable to lead us out. We’ve seen we can still survive and thrive, even after years of the New Deal and the Great Society. Unfortunately, our liberties are suffering an ongoing erosion, so we must band together, find the right people going forward to conduct winning campaigns, and bring Reagonomics to the forefront. That’s change people can believe in!
